Solitary Eye

My heart, alone, has been my friend
My constant through the years
I've learned to look at sunsets
Through the rainbow of my tears

So, is it just my need to know
If love is really true
that makes my foolish, trusting heart
Run back through time to you

If I didn't know any better
I'd let you steal my heart
In you I find the peace of mind
I've wanted from the start

But I have learned to look at life
With solitary eye
And not to trust the ways of love
And not to question why

So, why then does my heart look back
And fan the dying flame
And make me long for what is gone
A love that never came

I'm Gonna Get Us Busted

The French will tell you all you need
To keep your beauty and your speed
And put that sparkle in your eye
That makes you laugh and makes you cry
Is two lipsticks and a lover
Well, I've got shades of pink and red
And sexy clothes to wear to bed
I want to laugh and jump and shout
And kiss you 'til the stars come out
And I don't think I'll ever recover
My common sense has up and gone
I feel like I could dance 'til dawn
I want to tell you all I feel
And how you make my senses reel
'Cause you're the one I've trusted
I know you said that I should try
I even know the reasons why
We need to keep the lid on tight
And, baby, I'm trying with all my might
But I'm gonna get us busted

I Was Once A Flower

I was once a flower
Growing wild on the prairie
Among the buffalo grass and bluestem
You said I was a tender rose
Yes
But do you remember
The thorns that hid beneath the blooms
Piercing the hand
That dared to touch
Pink petals
That trembled in the morning dew?

I know a place
Where the briar-rose still grows
A wild tangle of dawn-tinted blooms
A profusion of perfume so heady
It can woo the weary
And heal the broken heart
That dares to touch it

Reply to Fly (a response to Emily Dickenson)

Remember the lady?
A large-brimmed hat, a pink silk flower
Who came into our meadow bower?
I, drunk on fall aster and black-eyed susans
Fell asleep on her hat,
Woke up in heaven!

Orchids in the alley,
Air so heavy with sweet perfume
I could scarcely fly.
The hat is finally deaded home, and so am I.

It won't be long
I'll hear Frog's song.
Our springtime arbor so alive,
Wild lupines on the hill,
Lilacs, heavy with nectar still,
My own dear hive.

I'll tell you all when you I see.
Your best and oldest friend,
The Bee

Summer, Love and You

I see you, in the shadows,
With the love-light shining in your eyes.
I hear you as you whisper
That you love me, love me do.
And I'll always love the moonlight
For it reminds me
Of summer, love and you.

Oh, the breezes rippled the waters deep
And stirred the moonlight on your hair

Through the years, I'll remember
How the roses gave such sweet perfume.
And our love, twice as fragrant,
Though the words we spoke were few.
and I'll always love the moonlight
For it reminds me
Of summer, love and you.

April Snow

Oh, don't you love when April snows
Tickling face and heart and nose?

An April Fool, a wondrous wink,
A kind of wondrous custard drink
For daffodils and other flowers
Sleeping in their garden bowers.

Whirling, swirling, soft and white
Turning Spring into a night
Of crystal dreams and misty light.
Softly falls without a sound
Gently drifting to the ground.

Tomorrow you'll be gone, I know
Oh beautiful, beautiful
April snow!

Job 33: 15,16

In a dream, in a vision of the night
When deep sleep falls upon men
In slumbering upon the bed
Then, He opens the ears of men
And seals their instruction
